Lucerne is a small, highly picturesque town in the heart of Switzerland, its medieval Old Town visited by more than five million visitors a year. It is surrounded by a panorama of alpine peaks including Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Rigi and is situated on the shores of Lake Lucerne. This is the home of the Gubelin family, proprietors of the Gubelin group of companies, one of which is the Gubelin Gem Lab. Lucerne is where the main operations, administration and research and development activities of the lab are located. The Gubelin Gem Lab operates one of the most sophisticated and advanced gemmological laboratories in the world, combining in-depth knowledge, decades of gem-testing expertise, and highly sophisticated analytical equipment. The Gubelin reference stone collection, a truly unique resource consisting of more than 20,000 stones from every commercially relevant gemstone mine in the world, is also housed in Lucerne. All this allows us to provide our clients with gemmological reports which enjoy acceptance throughout the world, based as they are on leading-edge scientific research. A team of earth scientists, gemmologists, analysts and support functions ensures that each gemstone entrusted to us by our clients receives the attention, care and scrutiny it deserves. Analytical work is undertaken hand-in-hand with scientific research, and tends to be conducted by the very same individuals. With more than 80 years of experience since its establishment, the Gubelin Gem Lab has earned an enviable reputation for the quality, independence and integrity of its activities and services.
