Tahitian cultured pearls come from the black-lipped Pinctada margaritifera oyster, and originate mainly from the Pacific Ocean region – more specifically from the remote atolls and lagoons of French Polynesia. Their natural colour spectrum ranges from light to dark grey, black as well as brown, yellow, golden and green. These body colours may be further complemented by various overtones. They can be more than 12 mm in diameter. Tahitian cultured pearls are especially sought after because of their colours and overtones, their sizes as well as their thick nacre.
