Scallop Pearls

Scallop pearls come from a pecten (molluscs of the Pectinidae family). The most famous pearl-producing pecten is the Mano de Leon (Pacific Lion’s Paw). Its name is due to the shape of shell, which resembles a lion’s paw and is native to the coastal waters of Central and North America – most commonly the coast of Baja, California. Scallop pearls are generally symmetrical in an oval, round, drop, or button shape, their colour ranging from maroon to plum, and also commonly deep purple, red, orange and pink.
